After being admitted to St. Thomas’ Hospital in London on Sunday evening (05.04.2020) on the advice of his doctor due to coronavirus related symptoms, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson has confirmed that he has had a ‘comfortable night’ and is ‘in good spirits’ and ‘remains in hospital under observation’.

His admission to hospital comes 10 days after he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Although initially it was believed that his symptoms were mild, it has been confirmed that his cough is ‘persistent’ and that he has a temperature.

Reports that he had been using oxygen treatment have not been confirmed.

The Prime Minister posted to social media today:

“Last night, on the advice of my doctor, I went into hospital for some routine tests as I’m still experiencing coronavirus symptoms. I’m in good spirits and keeping in touch with my team, as we work together to fight this virus and keep everyone safe.

I’d like to say thank you to all the brilliant NHS staff taking care of me and others in this difficult time. You are the best of Britain.”

The spokesperson said that the Prime Minister is continuing to work from hospital via video link, while First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Dominic Raab will chair the coronavirus ‘war room’ meetings.

Mr. Raab in his capacity as first secretary of state would be expected to stand in for Boris Johnson should be unable to continue to work due to the coronavirus.

No 10 stated that despite Raab’s duties, Johnson remained in charge.

There are currently no indications as to when he will leave hospital.
