Hot on the heels of her international hit “Lo malo”, the Algeciras born singer, song writer, producer and model has launched her single “P’arriba” (Upwards) in a year that has been packed with one success after another.

The last months have been a whirlwind for Brisa Fenoy …In October she travelled to Paris on an assignment for a famous cosmetics brand and between the French capital and Barcelona she recorded the video for her latest single “P’arriba”. From Barcelona she climbed the Pyrenees to star in a story of love and nostalgia in the video “Losing all my time” with which the musician Zulabard presents his debut album “Late to wait”. At the same time the Madrid fashion photographer Miguel Reveriego, selected her as the subject of one of the 17 images that he believes best represent the new generation of Spanish talent.

She was nominated for the class of best Spanish artist in the 2018 MTV European Music Awards 2018 and as best new artist in the 40 Principales Awards for this year. The national newspaper “El Pais” awarded Fenoy the ICON prize for Cultural Agitation; Cosmopolitan named her “Millennial Icon” and the organisation Women to Follow gave her their prize for cultural achievement. Amid wall to wall events she was invited to the first night of the film “Queen” in London and was a judge in the 7th annual finals of the reality television talent show, “Operacion Triunfo.”

In between the promotional tour for her latest release, Brisa has still found the time, in recent weeks, to perform in festivals such as Monkey Week in Seville and to participate in the TEDx Cadiz University sociology event held in mid November in the Cadiz City Conference Centre.

In answer to questions from REACH, the singer, song writer and model from Algeciras confesses to a sense of vertigo since her international success with “Lo Malo” (a song which she composed for Aitana and Ana Guerra and which could have become the Spanish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest); but this has not gone to her head.

She has also penned such songs as “Jerico” and “Tres minutos” (3 minutes) and claims to be very much at home with all the new technologies which she says allow her to connect with her audiences beyond fashions and tendencies. She is aware that her lyrics as much as her particular musical style are the reasons for her accomplishments. “So called “success” is based on the ability of a musical theme to connect with the feelings and rhythmic patterns of the listener. It is not just content, which for me is important , but also rhythm and melody which play an essential part”.

She loses no sleep at the thought of being called a “millennial icon”, although she is grateful for that and all the other accolades. “I am not an icon, nor do I want to be one….Moreover I would like to deconstruct it. I am only a link in the chain of people, of artists who want to transform reality through our art. All generations re the same and we millennials have the duty of breaking the generational axis because without the contribution of all the generations change will not be possible”

Brisa has an answer for those who say that she may be posturing when it comes to her support of such causes as feminism or immigration. “What is important is that I know that my proposals are not posturing … they all come from personal conviction, and the value which every human life has for me. In fact, I act the way I am and maybe that is what attracts attention.”

Used to packing and unpacking her cases, Brisa is no longer able to come to Algeciras as often as she would like to, so she enjoyed her forays last summer which even allowed her to give a concert at Al Cultura. “I have many friends and family that keep themselves up-to-date with what Ido and relay to me the good wishes and encouragement will allow me to stay on course. I always feel well in this my native land and I continue to grow… The more I know about other places the more I recognise the exceptional beauty of this territory”.

In spite of the calm demeanour in her look, her almost perpetual smile and her own name, Brisa is a hurricane of activity, a whirlwind of projects although she is aware that “time has a price and that not everything can be done at once”. Orders for Eurovision, new song releases, others in the pipeline, two new video clips, a book, marketing work… and composing new songs. Enjoy “P’arriba” which has just been released and which like the Brisa is a call to optimism. “We have to look up (p’arriba), with a desire to live a happy life, because except in adverse situations, the choice is always up to the individual”, she concludes.
