\u201cMe gusta invitar a los espectadores a aceptar esa porci\u00f3n de azar e incertidumbre que tiene la vida\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSiempre he tenido la sensaci\u00f3n de ser, en el mejor de los casos, el traductor de otras voces, algo fantasmal…\u201d. El artista como \u201cfingidor\u201d, como rostro o voz oculto tras una m\u00e1scara, una constante en la obra de Chema Cobo, es la clave que conecta las casi 40 obras, estructuradas en tres series, que forman parte de \u2018Between the Cat and the Smile\u2019, la exposici\u00f3n que el genial artista tarife\u00f1o expone durante estos meses de julio y agosto en los contenedores rojos de AlCultura, en la D\u00e1rsena del Saladillo de Algeciras. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Between<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

La asociaci\u00f3n cultural homenajea as\u00ed a uno de sus artistas m\u00e1s internacionales, miembro destacado de aquella Nueva Figuraci\u00f3n Madrile\u00f1a que puso patas arriba el mundo del arte hace casi 40 a\u00f1os, y autor de una obra extensa y personal\u00edsima, cargada de matices, y repartida por algunas de las colecciones y museos m\u00e1s importantes del mundo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chema Cobo (Tarifa, 1952), que se integr\u00f3 en el Madrid de los a\u00f1os 70 en un grupo de artistas que aglutinaba la galer\u00eda Buades (junto con otro tarife\u00f1o universal, Guillermo P\u00e9rez Villalta), reside actualmente en Alhaur\u00edn el Grande (M\u00e1laga), y desde ese rinc\u00f3n en el mundo sigue creando una obra en cierto modo filos\u00f3fica, que plantea preguntas inc\u00f3modas al espectador y le \u201cobliga\u201d a replantearse su punto de vista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En este regreso al Campo de Gibraltar, donde hace tiempo que no expon\u00eda, Cobo hace un gui\u00f1o al concepto de \u2018Alicia en el Pa\u00eds de las Maravillas\u2019, la m\u00edtica obra de Lewis Carroll, y hace girar sus tres series de cuadros en torno a tres \u2018personajes\u2019 distintos el hombre de m\u00e1scaras, el ventr\u00edlocuo y el joker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCada espectador es libre de interpretar un cuadro en s\u00ed mismo, pero yo pienso mis exposiciones para que tengan un sentido, y, dentro de ellas, cada obra es como una secuencia de una pel\u00edcula\u201d, explicaba el artista en la inauguraci\u00f3n de \u2018Between the Cat and the Smile\u2019, reconociendo que, si de algo reh\u00faye en su obra, es de las obviedades. \u201cYo tiendo a andar sobre arenas movedizas, y a hacerme muchas preguntas a m\u00ed mismo, y me gusta invitar a los espectadores a aceptar esa gran porci\u00f3n de azar e incertidumbre que tiene la vida, y que nos suele resultar dif\u00edcil afrontar\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEl arte es complejo, como el ser humano, y precisamente por eso debe huir de lo evidente\u201d, advierte Cobo, que defiende la responsabilidad del artista de tratar a quienes se acerquen al arte contempor\u00e1neo como a adultos, no como a ni\u00f1os, y por tanto, \u201cno se trata de darles las cosas hechas, para que se queden tranquilos, sino de hacerles pensar\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El artista tarife\u00f1o, que conect\u00f3 en los a\u00f1os 80 con movimientos internacionales como el Neoexpresionismo y la Transvanguardia, ha participado desde entonces en prestigiosas exposiciones y ferias de arte, tanto en Europa como en Estados Unidos, destacando la que llev\u00f3 por nombre \u2018Recent European paintings\u2019 en el Salomon R. Guggenheim de Nueva York, as\u00ed como la de la Galer\u00eda Zolla Lieberman en Chicago, y continuando en a\u00f1os posteriores con muestras individuales en Seattle, Boston, Mil\u00e1n, Roma, Madrid, Berna, y Nagoya (Jap\u00f3n).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Durante los a\u00f1os noventa, sin dejar de exponer en galer\u00edas americanas, fue tambi\u00e9n profesor invitado en la Northwestern University de Chicago, en la School of the Art Institute of Chicago, y en la NY Art School de Nueva York. Realiz\u00f3, asimismo, numerosas muestras por Europa, destacando en Espa\u00f1a la que llev\u00f3 por t\u00edtulo \u2018El Laberinto de la Br\u00fajula\u2019, en el Centro Andaluz de Arte Contempor\u00e1neo de Sevilla y el C\u00edrculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ya en el siglo XXI, un hito importante lo marc\u00f3 la exposici\u00f3n \u2018Out of Frame\u2019 en el Centro de Arte Contempor\u00e1neo de M\u00e1laga (CAC), seguida de un conjunto de exposiciones en galer\u00edas y museos que recogen l\u00edneas de investigaci\u00f3n latentes en sus m\u00e1s de 40 a\u00f1os de trabajo. Su trabajo m\u00e1s reciente ha sido para la Galeria Il Ponte Contemporanea de Roma, donde ha inaugurado la exposici\u00f3n \u2018Exit Strategy : Via di Fuga\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
